Big Brother Finale – Opinion

Who deserved to win? Was anyone in the final 3 a top competitor?

As a long-time Big Brother fan, I’ve been anticipating this finale and predicting who would win for the entire season. However, I was honestly disappointed by the final 3 and the outcome. Nonetheless, the episode was immensely entertaining. With emotional moments from the competitors to comical moments by the jurors, this episode had it all.

First, let’s unpack the final 3. Vince, despite winning competitions, was probably one of the worst players in Big Brother history. His fellow houseguests even defined him as an “emotional manipulator,” as he constantly cried to play on others’ emotions, and continuously backstabbed his closest allies. Morgan, Vince’s #1 in the game, was honestly the one who deserved to have won the most. Although she was also quite unlikeable to lots of viewers, with her obsession with Zach and uncomfortable relationship with Vince, she objectively was the most deserving player to win. She had the most competition wins and constantly saved herself from eviction. Not only was she a comp-beast, she was definitely great game-wise, getting out some big competitors and convincing other houseguests to do some of her dirty work. Ashley, although most people’s favorite person in the final 3, was not necessarily the most deserving player. She was a bit of a floater and did not make many notable moves. Compared to Vince and Ashley, Morgan was the clear winner of BB27. However, to make it past the final 3, you have to win a series of competitions. Unfortunately, Morgan did not make the cut.

The competition played against Ashley and Vince was a difficult watch. With Vince’s meltdown at the end, his loss was a clear reflection of his poor sportsmanship and the overall manner in which he carried himself throughout the game. Ashley didn’t even get to celebrate her win as Vince was causing such a scene. After Ashley won this competition, she faced off against Morgan, the comp-queen of the season, in the final HOH competition. Whoever won this had a guaranteed spot in the final 2, and on top of that, got to pick the houseguest they wanted to sit beside. If Morgan won this, she would’ve won the entire game. However, Ashley beat Morgan with ease. The absolute upset of Ashley defeating Morgan marked the end of Morgan’s game. Ashley had to evict Morgan, because no one could’ve won against Morgan in the final 2.

The final 2 being Ashley and Vince is a bit ironic in the game of Big Brother, as Vince honestly did not play a great game at all, and Ashley barely even played a game. The jurors (previously evicted houseguests who now vote for who wins the game) were shocked that Morgan did not make it to the final 2. However, when it was the jurors’ time to question the final 2 houseguests, it was clear who they wanted their winner to be: Ashley. The jurors asked Vince questions about whether his tears were real and if he made any stand-out game moves by himself, without Morgan. On the other hand, the jurors excitedly asked Ashley questions about why she thinks she’s deserving of the win, the best move she made, and overall kept a positive tone, smiling at her answers.

During the questioning, it was clear who came prepared and who is a lawyer. Ashley’s responses were packed with information, clearly answering the question and confidently providing examples to back up her argument. Vince, however, stumbled on his words and at times contradicted himself. If one thought that Ashley wasn’t deserving of the win before the finale, watching them two answer the questions made it obvious that Ashley was the rightful winner of the game.

Ultimately, the seven jurors voted, and Ashley won 6-1. The only juror who voted for Vince to win was Morgan, which makes sense, as they were each other’s closest allies in the game. Ashley went home with the grand prize of $750,000, claiming that she will never work in a law firm again. Vince went home with the second-place prize of $50,000, saying that it was more money than he’s ever made in his life.

The other prize on the line was America’s Favorite Player. Leading up to the finale, viewers cast their votes on who their favorite player was. It was a toss-up between Keanu, Rachel, and Will, but by an overwhelming majority, Keanu took home the prize of $75,000! His humorous diary room entries, coupled with his absolute excellence in competitions, made him a lovable player to watch.

Overall, the finale was an emotional and entertaining one. Watching Ashley win over the jurors was amusing, and seeing Keanu get appreciation was heartwarming. Although the final 3 didn’t necessarily scream top Big Brother players to me, the season was a great one, and I am already counting down the days until next summer.
